Modeling and your Wardrobe

Beauty tips

So you're in great shape, feeling good about the way you look and ready for your first casting, but then you open your wardrobe and guess what.. nothing to wear!

A model's wardrobe is extremely important. Agents and casting directors may claim to be able to see past clothes and makeup to identify real potential, but there's no doubt that a well-dressed model will often get the job over a better looking competitor.

Remember that it is best to keep it simple though - the focus should be on you, your complexion, face, and figure.

The client wants to see your shape, so wear something flattering to your figure and show them what you've got! If you have great legs wear a mini skirt. If you have nice toned arms wear spagetti straps.

High heels are essential though because will give everyone's legs an attractive shape. You can carry them in your bag and put them on last minute if need to.

It is best to keep jewelry to a very minimum. I always wear just diamond studs and a couple of simple rings. Your nails should be clean and natural without any bright colours.

Types of Casting

If you can it's best to find out what the casting is for and dress accordingly. Your agent should advise you on what to wear if the client requires something particular, but if they don't here are a few general tips to keep in mind.

If the casting is for sportwear then think minimal make-up and a pony tail for the casting. You should wear something sporty and casual such as trendy jeans and t-shirt with high heels.

For cosmetics and jewelry castings - Make sure your hair is styled with rollers or blow dried straight. Take your time on your makeup to make sure you've done the best you can to make your skin look flawless and dewy without overdoing it. These shot are for close ups. Dress elegant and simple for this kind of casting such as a black dress and pumps. Make sure your manicure is natural.

For evening dresses you might want to add a little extra makeup to your eyes to make them pop. A nice little daytime dress is perfect to show the client your figure in dresses.

For editorial castings, you should normally wear your skinny jeans. Pair them with a trendy top - it doesn't hurt to show your figure off a little!
