Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic surgery can be broadly spilt into two categories - Bariatric surgery for weight loss, and purely cosmetic surgery for beauty reasons. Although there are plenty of wonderful beauty tips for maintaining a good complexion and a healthy weight, sometimes age and gravity catch up with even the prettiest models. That's where cosmetic surgery comes in.
Celebrities are always in the news for their cosmetic surgery, whether its Sharon Osborne for her gastric bypass, Lindsay Lohan for her breast implants, or Priscilla Presley for her facelift. Sometimes they go wrong, just look at Meg Ryan's lips or Tara Reid's breast augmentation. This shows how important it is to spare no expense and get a good plastic surgeon.
Cosmetic Surgery
Botox
Botox is the most common cosmetic operation in the US today, used to reduce or
eliminate frown lines, crows feet and other wrinkles. The rapid effects,
combined with a low price and zero recovery time, make Botox an affordable and
effective option for those looking to shave a few years off their appearance. It
is particularly popular among actresses and models trying to lengthen their
career.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is often used by models, but it really depends on which part
of the industry they are in. Commercial print or catwalk models do not usually
often opt for this operation, but it is better suited to glamour models or
prospective actresses.
Chemical Peel
If your skin has age spots, acne, fine lines or excessive oiliness, and your
condition is getting in the way of your social life, making you depressed or
taking your confidence away from you, then a chemical peel might be just the
thing for you. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled.
Removing Under-Eye Bags
Under-eye bags can really make any person look haggard and old. It is mostly hereditary
but now there is a new procedure with minimal pain and no telltale signs.
Incisions are made on the inside of the eye and the under eye fat is removed. This new procedure doesn't need stitiches and the patient can go back to work within one week!
Facelift
The first facelift was performed in 1901 by a German surgeon. Since then it has
risen to become the fifth most popular surgery, after Liposuction, Rhinoplasty,
Breast Augmentation and Eyelid Surgery. Many aging Hollywood stars are now
employing facelifts to prolong their careers.
Microdermabrasion
Less invasive than a chemical peel, Microdermabrasion freshens up the skin and
removes sun damage and age spots with the use of small crystals. It stimulates
the production of skin cells and collagen, and has become a very popular
non-surgical cosmetic technique. An excellent procedure to use the day before an
important show or casting.
Nose
Surgery
There are several different reasons to get a nose job. The most popular these
days is for aesthetic reasons. But many people also have breathing problems that
can be easily improved by some surgical manipulation of the septum.
Cameron Diaz is one recent celebrity who has had surgery for breathing problems, while the list of Hollywood stars getting nose jobs is growing every day.
Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery
Mesotherapy
A procedure used to eliminate local fat deposits and reduce cellulite. First
tested in 1952 by a French surgeon, and now very popular in Europe, this
technique is now being used more and more around the world to correct love
handles and other fatty areas.
Liposuction
One of the most widely used cosmetic surgeries, liposuction removes
exercise-resistant deposits of fat to give a more even body shape. It can be
used on almost any body area, and the best thing about liposuction is that the
fat cells do not grow back.
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Do you have those deposits of fat around your belly or lower abdomen? Sometimes
they just won' go away, and that's where the tummy tuck comes in. It removes
excess skin and fat on the abdomen, and flattens the stomach.
Vaser Lipo
This new advanced form of laser assisted liposuction was only recently approved in the
United States and sounds almost too good to be true. The new ultrasonic technique bursts and
melts fat cells without disturbing the surrounding tissues, causing you only minimal pain
and swelling. Its so precise that you might only need two days of downtime!
The fat is melted, then massaged and emptied by a mini canella through a tiny 1mm incision. These incisions can be placed through old scars or moles to minimize the tell-tale signs of lipo even further.
Patients and doctors have also reported that laser assisted liposuction really tightens the extra skin above the fat deposit, much more than than traditional liposuction does. A pressure garment is still necessary for 2 weeks post op to ensure the skin tightens well and doesn't sag or ripple.
Gastric Bypass
Gastric bypass tends to be used more in cases of morbid obesity, or when the
patient's life is threatened by his or her weight. Weight loss by this method
can be very drastic, but it does involve serious surgery and much greater risks.
Famous recipients of gastric bypasses include Roseanne Barr, Randy Jackson and
Sharon Osborne.
